At the beginning of the year, I attended the Winter Raven Photography Headshot event in West Palm Beach. Winter was an amazing host and this event was the perfect combination of black girl magic and networking. I had the opportunity to make new acquaintances and chat it up with a few of my favorite blogger boo’s. Not only did I get a fantastic headshot I also purchased Winter’s branding package that was being offered at a discount to anyone attending the event. I’ll share those images in a separate post.
As you can see I decided to go for a more professionally styled portrait that would represent me as a creative and management professional. Curves and Confidence is my baby but not my full-time job. I have a regular 9 to 5 that I kinda like, on most days, lol.
Afterthoughts
So I have a few takeaways from the event and few more tips to share to ensure you guys get the best headshot possible:
Don’t be afraid of movement. I probably should have relaxed a little more and tried different poses. I am a serious person in real-life so my portrait reflects that. However, I could have softened up a little. Check out this Pinterest board of headshots that are professional but relaxed.
Makeup is a MUST! The makeup services offered made a huge difference. Alexia did an amazing job. Foundation, concealer, and lashes go a long way to create a polished look without being overdone.
Wear Your Glasses. I wear glasses 90% of the time. I never considered bringing them for my photo but I plan to incorporate them into my next headshot. My glasses are an everyday accessory and I would love the challenge of styling them with a headshot.
Update your headshot as often as needed. I want a headshot for each of my signature hairstyles: box braids, natural hair updo, and big curly hair. This suggestion may seem a bit extra but I change my hair often and I want a photo that reflects my current look if need be.
