So I missed World Vegetarian Day which was October 1st, *hangs head in shame*.  I had no clue there was even a World Vegetarian Day, which is the kick off to Vegetarian Awareness Month.  Thanks to my vegetarian sis Jeanee for putting me on to this.

Most of you guys know that I have been a vegetarian/pescetarian/vegan (yea all these) for the past two years, best decision I have ever made.  Most people thought I was just jumping on a bandwagon or following a trend when I first made my decision.  My answer to that was simple, being healthy is not a trend.  Don’t get me wrong I do still struggle with certain things, well two things…cheese and eggs.  Cheese is the best thing ever and it tastes so good on so many things BUT cheese is made from milk and eggs come from chickens, see my problem?

So as of October 1st I decided to re-adopted my vegetarian diet until January 1st.  I guess you can call this my end of year cleanse.  So far I have made the following changes:

  • No eggs
  • No cheese
  • No coffee
  • No fish

So far I miss having coffee as a part of my morning routine and I am definitely missing fish, which just means I have to stay on top of getting my plant based protein.  Enough about my cheese and eggs struggles, lol.

I know many people are interested in vegetarianism lifestyle but have no idea where to start.  Lets start with the different type of vegetarians:



Vegetarian: a vegetarian is someone who lives on a diet of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruits with, or without, the use of dairy products and eggs.  Read More:

Pesco-vegetarian: a vegetarian diet, consuming no meat such as chicken, pork, lamb or beef. The difference between this type of vegetarian and other types is that they do consume seafood.  Read More:

Pollo-vegetarian: a pollotarian diet includes eating chicken, fish, dairy products and
eggs, but not eating red meat or meat from any land mammals.  Read more:

Lacto-vegetarian: exclude meat, fish and poultry from their diets, but include dairy and eggs.  Read more:

Ovo-vegetarian: people who do not eat meat or dairy products but do eat eggs. Many people are ovo-vegetarians because they are lactose-intolerant. Read more:

All these categories will have your head spinning, but as you can see there is a litte something for everybody.  It was easiest for me to start out as a pollo-vegeterian and move into being a vegetarian.  I finally settled in being a pesco-vegetarian aka pescetarian that dabbled in lacto-vegetariansim, lol.

    I am so thankful that there are good alternatives for cheese. I use the block, sliced, and shredded cheese from Daiya. It melts well and really tastes like cheese.

    I'm A Pesco-Vegetarian with a dash of Lacto-Vegetarian! My fiance and I may eat fish once or twice a month but i absolutely love cheese! Its my weakness! I don't drink regular milk because its nasty and i'm not a big fan of eggs but I love cheese! Thanks for the Vegetarian month awareness I had no clue!

    I think I am a Pesco-Vegetarian and Pollo-Vegetarian. I eat chicken, rarely eat pork (I'm working on it!) and I don't eat red meat. Yet, I'm allergic to fish and scallops and can only eat shrimp, crabs, squid, and crawfish. lol This "diet" has helped a lot with my weight loss especially with eating cleaner foods. Happy Vegetarian month!
