Don’t laugh but I wore this dress to spend the day at South Pointe Park.  It seemed like the perfect outfit for sitting in the grass while I listened to music and people watch.  Of course, once I got to the park I felt way overdressed but then I thought “who cares”.  This dress is dope I look great wearing it.  I have to keep reminding myself not to concern myself so much with what others may be thinking.

Stay True to Yourself

I found this dress in store from F21 and I knew it was meant for me.  My only hesitation was the sheerness of the dress.  Sounds strange coming from a person that just raved about this completely sheer top, right? Hear me out.  I am completely comfortable with an exposed upper body.  But the thought of having my booty and thighs on display in a non-beach/pool setting is something different.

I bought the dress anyway and ended up wearing a pair of high waist swim bottoms which worked out perfectly.  At times I over think my appearance but there’s nothing worse than being uncomfortable in your own clothing.  I like to try new things when appropriate but I always want to carry myself as a lady before anything else.

Old School

My traditional ways come from my southern upbringing and my grandmother.  To this day I won’t step foot in a church with bare legs!  Living in South Florida has loosened me up a bit.  Pretty much anything goes here but just anything isn’t for me. I could wear this dress to brunch or the mall booty just swaying all over the place but that’s not cute, nor would I feel comfortable.

Has your upbringing ever affected your sense of style?

  1. From pantyhose (stockings) to slips, those southern Grandmas will have you all messed up LOL. I am 44 years old and I will still wear a slip if it makes the dress flow better. With my grandmas, it was wearing a good fitting bra. Even to bed!!!. I stopped wearing one to bed when I turned 40. I have to sleep comfortably 🙂

    • Yes! Girl I had an ex-boyfriend try to scold me about not sleeping in a bra. Talking about I’m gonna have saggy boobs. Boy bye! Judge your mama don’t judge me lol.

  2. I so agree! I will slip on a slip when I feel like I have too much jiggle and even some tighter grandma undies if I need a little more tummy control. Just because you can do it, doesn’t mean you should! You look fab honey!

  3. This is beautiful. May I ask what size you are wearing and how tall are you? I’m 5’9 and I’m trying to see if it would be long enough. ?
