I’ve been a blogger/influencer for the past 8 years and the one thing I’ve failed to do is take a professional headshot.  I have lots of amazing photos but none of them equate to a professional portrait.  Every time I’m asked to provide a headshot by an event organizer I cringe.  I usually skim through whatever I have that’s close to a headshot and provide that. A professional headshot is necessary so readers, brands and PR companies and companies have a face to put with the Curves and Confidence brand.

With all that in mind, I started to think about what I needed to do to prepare for Winter’s headshot event to ensure my portrait reflects my blog and my personality.  I reached out to Winter and asked her to provide some tips I could share with you guys.  She suggested the following:

  • Think about what you’ll wear.  Wear something that best represents the personality of your business and how you want to represent yourself.
  • Keep it simple.  Avoid wearing too much jewelry or ANY patterns on your clothing.  You can still portray personality without going overboard.
  • Avoid having your eyebrows waxed the “day of” your headshot.  Your skin will be irritated from the waxing process and this will absolutely show in your image.
  • Consider adding a makeup service.  Light professional makeup makes a huge difference in photographs.
  • Leave “sexy” at home.  Extreme cleavage doesn’t come off as professional, even if you’re in the creative industry (unless that’s actually your brand).
  • Get sufficient rest the night before.  If you’re sleepy, it will show!
  • Relax and have fun!  It’s ok to smile or even laugh!

Winter provided some great tips! I wanted to share a few more things that came to mind:

  • Make sure your hair looks fantastic. I instantly feel confident and beautiful when my hair is on point.
  • Wear properly fitting clothing, clothing that is pulling or too big is going to take away from the portrait.
  • Speak up! Don’t be afraid to let your photographer know your ideas.  Your portrait should be a collaborative effort.

I usually don’t wear makeup ever unless it’s a special occasion.  However, I decided last year after having my makeup done for my birthday I would make the investment in the basics or have my makeup done when the occasion called for it.  I love my everyday fresh face but I want to have a more polished look for my headshot.  Thankful Winter is collaborating with Alter Ego Artistry to provide lash and complexion services the day of the event.

Besides getting my outfit prepped, paying for makeup services I’ve also been hydrating.  Water is a natural refresher and I want to look my best on the day of the event.  I’ll be sure to share the final results with you guys.

If you are in the South Florida area and need a professional headshot you should definitely buy a ticket for Winter’s event.

  1. I’m having mine done today! I wish I’d seen this a week ago. Any advice for doing a headshot while bloated from that time of the month, and congested with sinuses? ?

That’s a tough combination. The bloating probably won’t be an issue since your doing headshot and I would say just push through the congestion and sinus issue the best you can.
