curves-and-confidence-braided-updo-bunI realized after writing the Evolution of Shea post that many of you may be new readers and have no clue who exactly Shea is.  Here I am talking about my evolution and the changes that you can expect over here at Curves and Confidence and I haven’t even formally introduced myself.

Before I give you guys the who, what, when and where about me I would like to take the time to thank each of you.  If you have ever left me a comment, sent me an email, told someone to check out my blog, shared a link on social media or even stopped me in public just to say I follow your blog, I want to say THANK YOU!

Now that I’ve properly thanked all of you let’s get to the good stuff. My name is Shea and I am a 36-year-old business professional and I live in Miami, FL.  My blog was started on a whim in 2010.  I had been contemplating starting a blog for a few weeks but wasn’t sure if I wanted to put myself on the internet.  Of course, I had no idea what I was doing at the time but I knew that I was stylish and I wanted to share my style with other people. Check out one of my first posts here, don’t laugh too hard.

The Beginning

Blogging in 2010 was simple, I took my photos on my balcony and using a tripod.  I would take outfit pictures in the morning before work, upload my photos at work, write my post and publish.  Back then there weren’t any editorial calendars or social media scheduling.  Twitter  and Facebook was not even on my radar.  I definitely didn’t have Instagram because it wasn’t available for Android back then.  My focus was on blogging and that’s it.  There were no long term goals when I started this I just wanted to do something completely different and have fun but keep have it remain a secret. I kept my blog a secret from my family and friends for the first two years.  How would I even explain what a blog even is, lol.

That was then and this is now.  I no longer keep my blog a secret.  It’s actually kinda hard to do that considering you can easily come across a picture of me via a Google search or on Pinterest.  It took me awhile to be okay with that because of my social anxiety and introverted personality.  I would essential try to hide in plain sight whenever possible.  Blogging has allowed me to become more comfortable with socializing, meeting new people and actually speaking in front of groups.

Curves and Confidence: How Curvy Girls Wear Pencil Skirts

One Day at a Time

Honestly, blogging is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I started Curves and Confidence at one of the lowest points in my life, right after my divorce.  Back then I had plenty of curves and not much confidence. However, with time I’ve progressed and I am happy with the woman I’ve become.  I am no longer the scary woman who is unsure of herself.  After my divorce, I was just taking it day by day.  The goal was to just make through the day.

Back then I knew I would make it out on the other side of my divorce but I couldn’t envision it.  However, here I am doing pretty well.

I am currently working on my M.S. in Leadership.  My goal is to become a part-time business professor.  Teaching was never on my radar but after getting my bachelor’s degree I knew I wanted to change lives like several of my professors had effected change in me.  The goal is continue being a creative and a business professional.  I love both and will pursue both for as long as it makes sense.  Hopefully, with the changes, I am making I can seamlessly incorporate more of my professional life into my blog.

Blogging and business consume most of my life but there are so many other things I love that I just don’t have time for anymore. I use to be an avid crafter, I love crocheting and sewing.  There isn’t much time these days to complete crochet or sewing projects.  One day I will have a studio that I can escape to for sewing, crochet, DIY and any other crafty thing I wanna do. I am claiming it!

Mind, Body, and Spirit

There may not be time for crafts but my health and wellness is a priority to me which is why I became a vegetarian six years ago.  Best decision I ever made.  Also one of the hardest things I’ve done.  Undoing 30 years of eating habits is difficult.  However, it’s worth it and I feel amazing when I eat clean and workout consistently. I think I am going to transition back to fully plant-based eating, no more fish, and cheese.  Cheese doesn’t agree with me and fish is starting to gross me out.

When I am not at work, cooking, blogging or working out I am probably shopping or having brunch.  I may have a bit of a shopping thing (no judging), lol.  But I am sure you guys probably knew that already.

I really wasn’t sure about doing this post but I actually enjoyed writing this.  Sharing more also allows me to connect with you guys on a more realistic level.  Hopefully, you learned a little more about me and my journey.

P.S. I am obsessed with notebooks and pens! I love to write and I’ve written in a journal almost every day since I was 18.

I just found You on Pinterest and i have been wondering where have you been this past year in my life. I will be moving back to Florida in 4 years after my tour in the Japan is up and you literally do everything that I do as well except Life Coaching , (but im sure you could do that as well). It is nice to meet you and I cant wait to have brunch with you.

      • Alexandria White

I am in the Navy. Currently trying to get into shape but no motivation to eat better (you know that super picky eater who would only survive off of chicken and greens beans if she went healthy). Your blogs are awesome and keep up the good work I am watching, following, and applying. Where exactly do you get your cute clothes?

  5. Shakia Kirksey

I really want to get into blogging…but I have no idea where to start! Consistency is also a major thing for me. I also want to learn how to crochet. I also love your posts!

  6. Sylvia White-irby

I stumbled across you on Pinterest today and I am so glad I found your blog. I am a curvy stylish woman looking for ways to look my best. Your blog was inspiring and provided some great ideas to improve my style. Thanks for creating a site for a curvy woman who looks like me.

  7. Maaaan you know I’ve been following you for a LONG time. I didn’t know you had kept your blog a secret! We introverts are so hilarious. When my husband starts telling people about my blog, I get all embarrassed while he’s super proud.

Girl pat yourself on the back! So glad you’ve stuck with it all this time. Looking forward to seeing where you go from here!
