Color-blocking is thought of as the exploration of taking colors that are opposites on the color wheel and pairing them together to make interesting and complementary color combinations. It is commonly associated in fashion as a trend that originated from the artwork of Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian.

Color-blocking has been one of my favorite fashion trends for the past several years.  I love putting together complementary and contrasting colors and wearing them to work. Prior to blogging I would have never been willing to wear anything so colorful to work.  Thank goodness for progression and my willingness to try new things.  I still have my moments of keeping it basic and only wearing black and white but it’s always good to shake things up a bit. Summer is the perfect time to try new vibrant color combinations.

I actually shopped my closet to create this look.  I’ve had this blazer, dress and shoes for a few years and never really thought about wearing them together.  The only new item I’m wearing is the belt.  As much as I love to shop it’s always good to create new outfits with your old favorites you already own.

I should have actually taken a photo with the blazer on but it was too hot outside; unlike my office which is freezing everyday.

Have you tried color-blocking? If not check out these outfits here, here and here for some instant inspiration.

Which look is your favorite?

  3. I absolutely love colorblocking! It’s a fantastic way to put colors today in a way that most people find unexpected. It’s been one of my top favorite trends over the years as well!
