Friend Friday: Fashionably Fit

I have been out of the Friend Friday loop for two months…but I’m back!!!
1. Do you keep some kind of fitness routine? Why?
Yes, mostly I do it because I want to maintain a healthy lifestyle, which includes eating organically and finally giving up meat! Secondly, it is a stress reliever…when I go for my runs I just zone out and listen to my music. It’s like I am leaving all the stresses of the day behind. I also use workout DVDs…Jillian Michaels and Jackie Warner are my favorite. I usually rotate through those. I have also used P90x in the past as well. I almost forgot exotic workouts…or pole aerobics! I started taking these classes at the beginning of the year. They are so much fun, but let me tell you much harder than it looks. After my first class I was sore all over the next day. Check them out, my instructor Shelly is a skinny lil thing but she doesn’t play.
2. Has working out, maybe training for a marathon or something of that
nature, helped with your own perception of body image?

Yes, I feel great when I work out and stay focused like I should. For the most part I have become more confident about my body especially areas I have always been self-conscious about.
3. When you are hitting the gym or just going out for a long walk what
do you wear? Is it about functionality or fashion?

It’s a little of both, I want to be fashionably functional, lol. I like putting on cute workout clothes, however after some trial and error I found out that it should be more about functionality and not fashionable.
·I prefer wearing capri leggings during my workouts, they don’t roll up.
·A good sports bra is a must; I wear Hanes Sport in the multi-pack.
·I don’t like t-shirts…they make me feel restricted. I own at least 15 or 20 of the Target Mossimo Long and Lean tanks, those things never stretch out of shape.
·My running shoes of choice is the Nike Air Max 2009, I love this shoe feels like you are walking on a pillow.
·I want to add Vibram FiveFingers to my collection for when I use my workout DVDs, they have great reviews, but those suckers are pricey, lol.
4. Do you feel there is a cultural perception of what you ‘should’ be
doing for your own physical fitness? No, but it seems that there is a perception about what a physically fit person should look like. Not everyone will be stick skinny because they workout. For me it’s about being healthy. I try not to let my weight dictate how I perceive myself too much. It does matter but I am more focused on see how I can transform my body from my hard work.
5. Dream big… what would be your ultimate fitness goal.
For now I am working on running a 5k in the near future and from there I will work my way up. Not saying I want to run a marathon or anything…maybe a half marathon.
