1. Have you ever looked at someone’s blog and thought yours will never measure up?
Yes, especially when I first started blogging. I had been a blog lurker for years. I always thought to myself “I can do this too”, but I never put forth the effort. When I finally decided to take the plunge I felt like a little fish in a big pond! I didn’t know what I was doing. Looking at the more popular blogs made me feel like I would never gain any momentum. However when you are passionate and genuine about something others will take notice. I was worried about not having fancy pics, fantastic backgrounds and snazzy layouts. I had to realize I will do the best with what I have and that’s all that matters.
2. Do you (did you) feel pressure to meet some kind of undefined standard for fashion bloggers?
Yes, but I wouldn’t define it pressure more like unwritten rules for success. I kinda used what I saw on other blogs a guide and I also used my experiences as a reader. A couple of things I picked up on quickly were: update frequently, read other blogs and leave comments, network and socialize with other bloggers, and stay true to yourself. I did (and do) feel the pressure of remaining interesting and making sure each outfit I post is on point.
3. Many established fashion bloggers are also extraordinary DIYers, bakers, and crafty people. Do you think you need to combine all of these things to be successful at blogging?
I am actually into all those things however for the most part I try to keep my blog about all things related to fashion or beauty. I may include a post here and there about something amazing that I want to share with my followers but I don’t want to be all over the place. However, people change and in the future I might decide to include other aspects of my life. I do think its cool when you get to see different facets from bloggers and learn new things about them. I don’t think its needed to incorporate several things to be successful, but if you see that it will be received well then I say go for it.
4. The most successful blogs are the ones that have their own personal voice – how are you developing your voice or how did you find yours?
I would have to say that by staying true to myself I am creating my voice. It is very easy to get caught up if you try to keep up with with other bloggers. I try to keep my blog upbeat and jovial, I like positivity and like to surround myself with it.
5. Toot your own horn… what’s one thing you do that is unique to you
and your blog? What gives your blog an edge?
Hmmmm…I don’t think there is one thing that I do that is giving me an edge or anything special or unique. I’m just lil ole’ me =)
